Not much to drink tonight, way to exhausted to have a drink or do anything in general. Still my plan to enjoy some of my highland park 12 year old is still a go tomorrow.

WTRB. As a friend once said, if it was any better I'd roll in it.

Tonight I will have a pour of "Ron's 4 Grain", in honor of Ron, who invented it and passed away Friday. Bourbon lost another champion on Friday.

For the last month or so I have been alternating between Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam Rye. Tonight however I'm going to try something all together different for me and that means cracking open my bottle of Bernheim Original. To my knowledge this is going to be the first time that thomas15 has tasted a wheat whiskey neat. So looking forward to the experience.

thomas15.......is Jim Beam Rye any different than old overholt. theyre both beam ryes, and i really wonder if there is any, or any significant, difference between the two.....since overholt is one of the worst things ive ever had

on topic, im polishing off a HH BIB gold. its something i get a couple times a year. at $9, its a steal, but probably not worth much more than that. i can never decide if i like the white or gold better...

393foureyedfox, I'm going to hope someone else can answer your question as I haven't tried Old Overholt. It's of course on my To Do list though. I'm not really ready to give my impressions on the Beam but it took me about half the bottle before I started to appreciate the Beam Rye. Having said that I intend to keep the Beam Rye in my bunker.

Take care 393foureyedfox,
Thomas

Finishing (not a lot left) a bottle of Rare Breed tonight. Such a great pour. While I would love to drink PVW 20 for the rest of my life, if I were limited to 5 bourbons to take to the island, WTRB would have to be one of them. Just the right flavor, just the right heat, just the right spice. Not my all-time, but it's right up there.

I had a pour of the new Four Roses Limited Release small batch. A stunning whiskey! It opens with some dried fruit and spice in front and then at mid palate you get this beautiful wave of carmel, toffee and vanilla. The finish is long and complex with the spice re-appearing and mingling with the vanilla and caramel. Just beautiful! Mr. Rutledge you have done it again!!!

Absolutely, positively agree with you on the Rare Breed. I will likely be finishing off mine tonight as well. As far as Pappy goes, I like the 15 a little better but both are outstanding. My neighbor has both and the 15 just knocks me out (I actually have two 15's in my bunker but am waiting until this years allocation before deciding whether I open one). If your top pour is a Pappy 20, try and get your hands on a Jefferson's 18YO. Every bit as good if you ask me.

Was this the 2013 Ltd. Small Batch Vince? I've got a few of the 2012's and they are extraordinary!

Cheers All,

Hey Vince, I went to the distillery yesterday for the introduction of the 2013 small batch, with Jim Rutledge. Jim told me it's the best bourbon he has ever tasted. Coming from him, that's saying
something. It is excellent. The finish just keeps on finishing. I love it!
