JDSB is 94 proof so it is not timid, but neither is it overtly alcoholic.
It is sweet and rich, but not really creamy or cloying, being sweetened to some degree, in my opinion, by the maple charcoal through which it is filtered in a final step before bottling.
It is oaky and slightly dry, but not the least bit tannic. And, it has a gracious amount of smokey/char flavor that adds a lot of interest to its complex flavors without overpowering the other taste elements.
It is sophisticated, delicate, and balanced, but certainly not harsh or thin.............and, its spice is proportional to its sweetness.
It is, in my estimation, one of the only American Whiskies which could be served to novice and experienced American Whiskey drinkers alike and have them both enjoy and appreciate it.
In my humble opinion, it is a Great American Whiskey. I am sipping from a freshly opened bottle and celebrating my good fortune in having it. It has no flaws of which I am aware and provides sheer sipping pleasure.
Come Back Jack and do it again!!.............I be having a hard time putting Jack back on the shelf.
