Bottling InfoThis special gift bottle was styled after an original circa 1870's bottle discovered in the Kentucky Bourbon Museum. We think it is pretty special. Especially when you consider what it holds. You See, Maker's Mark is the world's only handmade bourbon. It's made in small quantities of less than 19 barrels at a time. Which means we can be awfully choosy about everything we use and everthing we do to hand-craft our bourbon. It takes a lot of patience, a lot of good judgment, and, of course the human touch. So, please enjoy. Because, just like the hand-dipped wax seal that trickles down the neck of each bottle, no two VIP Maker's Mark gift bottles are alike.

Purchased at:Japan
Purchased for:Trade :o)
Info on this bottle:same bottle as above without the cool label ... yet
Proof Of this Bottle:90
Nose:Light oak, sweet leather, sugar cane, light scent of almonds,

There is traces of what I would call red wines scents.... the pickup on the oak is just right... not to heavy.. just perfectly balanced with the bourbon itself...

Not quite a crawl in the glass nose, but a revisit throughout the drink nose

I think my wife hit it... it is like the smell of the forest after a nice rain - clean, fresh and inviting
Taste:Creamy, almost buttery. Buttered sweet corn on the cob...
Finish:nice oak and light leather balance. Almonds, rich and complex. Damn.... this is good

this leaves me with impression of a good meal with .... again buttered sweet corn on the cob... The fullest Maker's - complex that I have ever had....
Overall:That is good bourbon. This surpasses that of the best Maker's that I have had. I know it is said that they are the same as the local red, but let me tell you. I have a side by side here, and there is no comparison.

Nose:Unique. Not like a bourbon. A bit softer in smell. Akin to a brandy.
Taste:Like the red seal, but more complex and mature.
Finish:Very nice and tasty. The notes on the product in Japanese described it as a "brandy-like" liquor. I have to agree.
Overall:It went well with a Native Spirit Organic cigarette.
I liked it. Very different from the normal Maker's- at the price I paid I wouldn't drink it everyday. It would be like a Booker's-type of liquor for the Maker's line. Not a daily bourbon, but one to have on a special occasion. It also makes a great wedding gift if you send in the card, and get the personalized label.

Review from bourbonv (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 560, Created:20060806143405)
Purchased at:estate sale
Info on this bottle:Personalized bottle for Maria and Bud from the late 1960's/early 1970's
Proof Of this Bottle:86
Nose:Ripe fruit and sweet caramel with a little pecan and oak wood. The fruit is very rip apple and pears today. The nose on this product is very nice and likes to change it's tune every time you smell it.
Taste:Sweet caramel and chocolate with ripe apples and pecans. This bourbon is has a wonderful fruitiness to it that is well balanced by the caramel and oak.
Finish:This bourbon has a chocolate sweetness on the finish that quickly changes to a rich caramel and oak. It has no alcohol burn and the finish last a long time.
Overall:Avery nice bourbon from the past. I have to wonder if the nodern version of the personalized Maker's Mark is half as good. The new version is 90 proof but the older version is probably aged longer and better. The whiskey in this bottle is a dark amber red indicating at least 10 years of age on the bourbon.

Nose:[Olfactory impressions]
Taste:[Description of the initial taste impression]
Finish:[Description of the lingering taste impression]
Overall:According to the people at Makers Mark, This is the exact same bourbon as the red wax standard bottling. The extra price is for the VIP bottle.
