Nose:Leather, rye, vannila, oak, and nuts. Classic! Sing the song, children...........Old Daddy, he is listening and loves you!
Taste:Rich and thick in barrel flavors. Sweet cream, deep vannila, soft oak, spice that tears the page, but does not rip it. Sing it again, children, even if you don't know what the words mean, you can sing the song...........that's it...........together we know something fine!
Finish:Long without being hot, zippy spice which yet retains some softness........agressive but not harsh, reminds you why you are a discriminating bourbon drinker.
Overall:There is something magic about 107 proof bourbons! I know of none which have come out in the last few years at that proof which I am unwilling to recommend (ORVW 15 YO, Weller Antique 7 YO, Baker's.............and there must be others).

Nose:Deep tones of molasses. Corn, brown sugar.. very rich nose
Taste:quick maple... light alcohol... light corn
Finish:Hmm sugar cane to maple and molasses.. There is a light tough of leather, but it is blended with a great amount of molasses.
Overall:Doing a comparison between the XO I had and the one Barleycorn was kind enough to release to me :o)

Early this was an easy choice. It is twice as good as the one I have... I want to send this some of mine to Mike to get his opinion...

But about 30 min into the pour... a very heavy leather taste and finish appeared... interesting...

Nose:Odd. The first scent makes me think of JD. There is a banana tinge. There is sweetness, but not what I expected
Taste:little burn... very tight with the flavor... some corn... kinda harsh...
Finish:quick burn, then leans out to a light complexity with a wide arrange of fruit and floral tones...
Overall:Doing a comparison between the XO I had and the one Barleycorn was kind enough to release to me :o)

Not sure what to say about this one. Not quite like JD, but leaves me thinking about it... Great surprise Mike... Thank you

About 30 min into this pour, this opened up to a rich vanilla... very odd. The quality on both flipped... interesting

Purchased for:$21.99 but marked down
Info on this bottle:Same distillation date as Mike's just mentioned but bottled April 11, 2006
Nose:Some mild oak and strawberry-like scents
Taste:Soft, rich, full, proof hardly showing - just like Mike said in the last review. A good sweetness and balance, I wonder if it is wheat-recipe
Finish:Long, well-integrated
Overall:I rate it very highly, it is a fine value and I would spend double what I paid to buy it again.

Nose:An excellent deep nose with caramel, vanilla, leather, nuts, rye and whiff of allspice........interesting. The alcohol is quite subdued for a 107 proof bourbon.
Taste:Thick rich mouthfeel that displays some corn sweetness touched with caramel that gives over to a touch of rye spiciness. A wonderful tasty and warm bourbon that only reveals the alcohol late late in the show.
Finish:Long and satisfying, the spice and thick sweetness trail all the way down the gullet.
Overall:A first rate bourbon. This bottle is from the same 10 YO batch as the last bottle I tried and is just as good. Your mission, should you accept it, is to find a better 10 YO bourbon for $25. While you may find its equal, I doubt you will find its superior. I have experienced some variety in the quality of Pure Kentucky X O. My last two bottles have been superb whiskey. Go and see if you can find some of this to try. In the meantime, I will return to my liquor store to see can I get some more of this to lay by for the hard times just on the horizon.

Nose:A nose rich in maple syrup, vanilla, clover, citrus, leather, cinnamon, and cream. Complementing these aromas is a resonate base of oak that keeps everything harmonious. A decidedly attention getting nose that is very, very good.
Taste:As good as the nose proposes. A rich creamy viscous vanilla and maple sweetness with a touch of oak that drifts into some just right spice (pepper and cinnamon) about mid-palate. Excellent taste balance in my opinion.
Finish:A finish befitting the taste. The viscous sweetness holds hands with the spice as they skip down the throat and into the gullet. I would never suspect that this is a 107 proof whiskey. There is no alcohol presence and it sails smoothly for the whole voyage.
Overall:This is my third bottle of Pure Kentucky X O and much the best. I had a bit of the last batch left and compared it to this one and they are from different planets. It is obvious that there is some inconsisentency t'wixt these expressions of X O. This last one is superb whiskey, as good or better than any 10 YO whiskey I can remember. This one is not a keeper, cause I am gone drink same.........this baby is in my groove!

Nose:Leather, oak, minty spice, vanilla, citrus, corn, rye, and something I just can't tease out of my aroma memory. A nice nose!
Taste:Starts out nice and creamy with significant sweetness that reminds me of caramel and brown sugar. Mid palate pepper and spice come along but fade quickly.
Finish:A relatively short finish that makes you forget the upfront creamy viscous taste and mouthfeel. There are some off key elements in the finish that strike a discordant note. This bourbon (at least this bottle) is out of tune to my ear.
Overall:I did not care much for PKXO this time because of the poor finish. It is not a complete bourbon.

Nose:Cherries, caramel and vanilla with leather, pepper spice and oak smoke.
Taste:Ripe fruit - dates with caramel and oak - just a little cinnamon spice.
Finish:Starts sweet but quickly turns tannic and sour.
Overall:Not too bad neat but probably better in an old fashioned that will hide the bad finish.

Nose:A warm nose with corn, rye, leather, citrus and organic earthy aromas.......quite nice. Lurking down deep is a bit of buttery caramel that adds depth to the aroma. It takes some time for all these elements to emerge. You have to get down into this bourbon, but there is a reward for those with patience.
Taste:A sweet buttered corn richness greets the front of the mouth, followed by the alcohol pepper about mid-palate.........this is a 107 proof bourbon! A mild toffee taste emerges toward the back of the mouth that is encourageing of another sip.
Finish:The finish on this 16 YO Pure Kentucky XO is moderate. You know you are drinking something that has a bit of potency, but it is not overpowering. The alcohol is held within the bounds of restrained exuberance (pardon me, Alan Greenspan).
Overall:This is a very good product, worth the $25 I paid for it. It reaches for the top shelf, falling just short because of a lack of complexiity and, in my opinion, it may equal Rowan's Creek, but it is not the equal of Noah's Mill, a favorite of mine (the price for Noah's Mill has fallen recently to the mid $40's, a true bourbon bargain). I will still enjoy Pure Kentucky XO from time to time.

Nose:Sweet toffee and caramel nose, maybe a hint of vanilla.
Taste:This is nice, really nice. There's a pronounced caramel and citrus flavor. Like the nose, there's a hint of vanilla in the mix here, but a sweet toffee/caramel taste greets you immediately. There is a slight burn, but not too harsh. It's hard to believe that is a 107 proof bottle...I mean that in a good way.
Finish:The finish really makes this bourbon worth it. The taste is succulent and the finish is wonderful too. In the finish is where you find a smooth citrus presence. This isn't smooth so much as a nice moderate burn. Like a good bourbon, you always know this is in your mouth, especially during the finish. A nice little pick me up that doesn't raise your hair...rather, it parts your hair nicely, leaving a comfortable feel.
Overall:I would highly recommend this bourbon, especially if you like the Van Winkle Family products. This is just as good as an Old Rip product. I took a chance on this b/c it's cheaper than Rowan's Creek and Noah's. I am a happy man. The nice sweet brush at the end makes this simply a fantastic bourbon.
