Burnished gold in color. The aromas begin with a bone-dry pepperiness, followed swiftly by a rich, sweet buttery note. The body is huge and creamy, coating your whole mouth, and the palate brings old leather into play with an abundance of fruits, cloves and sweet vanilla. The finish is long and very sophisticated.

A classic world-class whiskey.

Purchased at:Cape Cod, MA
Purchased for:look below
Info on this bottle:OCPR 13 Year (second tasting)
Nose:It's showing a ripe amalgam, very old wood somewhat reminiscent of Hirsch 74' with apricot, light allspice, and dried fruit (golden raisin).
Taste:Exceptional. A fairly broad spectrum of exceedingly ripe fruit, vanilla, and oak, along with some imported caramel notes. A soft yet semi-thick viscosity. Slightly chewy. Tea (orange pekoe).
Finish:Juicy. Mellow. Broad. Rich. Semi-long, warm around the gums. Not too dry. No ethanol. Silky.
Overall:This has gotten much better with age. I opened this bottle last summer (August 08) and sampled it many times, until the last review (below). It's the best $27 I've spent in a long time. BB

Info on this bottle:Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve
Nose:Pale Amber, medium to quick drip. Inky upon opening with salt and pepper unpinning some nice fruit, spice, and caramel. A well-balanced nose without any heavy alcohol or aggressive burn. A flurry of fine tea mingles with apricot and toffee.
Taste:Good oak, firm and dry, structured. On a second tasting it begins to open and change-up in the glass. Interesting complexity without being overly assertive. Melon? A slight scent of lavender comes through.
Finish:Medium to long... comfortably dry with lengthy heat.
Overall:A generous portion of Tea, reminiscent of OFBB 2005. It's appealing and shows much better than I anticipated. It would like to know what the square corked top bottling of this bourbon has to offer... This was the black plastic cap version as pictured. Recommended. BB

Nose:Smells like a bit-o-honey with some maple
Taste:A cedar taste hops out to me and then it gets basey... rye
Finish:Little alcohol, little wood (cedar), and rye... good, not great... but a 4 of 5 starts
Overall:BevMo had one bottle of this so I grabbed it with the 10yr Weller I went there for (Can't get them in Tucson yet)... At 90 proof it is a good sit and work through email bourbon... Would have liked it more for $20, but good none the less

Purchased at:McScrooge's, Knoxville, TN

Nose:Typical bourbon bouquet...caramel, toffee, a bit heavy on the alcohol.
Taste:Sweet, very sweet. Lacks texture and character. Slightly oakey.
Finish:There's a light to medium finish on this bourbon. It's not huge by any means but not nonexistent. The vanilla comes out in the finish.
Overall:Not a believer. It's not bad...at all, but it certainly doesn't stand out, especially for the price. I could name 10 bourbons that smoke this that are cheaper. It's a decent pour, and one I'd give to friends who just want bourbon, but not a spectacular bourbon. I'd say this is a "table bourbon."

Nose:Buttered popcorn, oak char, citrus peel, vanilla, and a mild leather nose that offer a bit of a puzzle in that it can't be quickly categorized. Certainly interesting enough to lead you to a taste.
Taste:Sweet corn that is somewhat creamy. The follow on spice is a welcome change, but fades rather quickly into a dryness at the back of the mouth.
Finish:A medium finish wherein the sweetness holds on but yields to a touch of spice that itself gives over to dryness in the end.
Overall:A pretty good bourbon that remains confused about what it wants to be and fails to achieve balance twixt its disparate elements.

Nose:The rye jumps out along with some char and oak. There is some vanilla and corn there too, followed by leather and burnt sugar. Not a complex nose but a satisfying one.
Taste:The taste is sweeter than the nose would lead one to expect. There is the mild spice at mid-palate with the sweetness more than holding its own.
Finish:The finish lingers a while and retains the sweetness to the end. Only mild alcohol burn as it goes down.
Overall:A very nice bourbon that has no serious faults. Good balance, but not very complex

Taste:Sweet caramel and mint spice with oak wood.
Finish:Very long and nice - sweet caramel and butterscotch.
Overall:Great neat, but also makes the best mint julep.

Taste:Sweet corn and caramel with vanilla and oak. Very smooth with a little warmth in the mouth.

Overall:A great bourbon for making a manhattan or sipping neat before dinner as a palate cleanser.

Review from Brewer (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 38)
Purchased at:Bayside, Queens

Info on this bottle:13 Years Old
Proof Of this Bottle:90
Nose:
The color is reddish orange. Prior to checking out the aroma, I swirled the glass around, and noted that this bourbon really clings to the sides of the glass. The aromas that I observe are rye, oak, apples, citrus, and a spicy scent, that I can't be more specific on.
Taste:The tastes are nicely combined with the rye coming through again. I'm suprised that I get so much rye aroma and flavor, given that this is made with a fairly small amount of rye used in the mashbill, 6% I believe. I also note honey and orange flavors. The mouthfeel is a very creamy texture. The finish is very smooth, and medium in length. There's still a honey/citrus taste that lingers, as well as leather. A suprise for me is that at 13 years old, I would have expected more cask influence to the taste. The oak aroma is there, but to a fairly small degree. The wood contributes to the taste, but is not dominant. There are flavors of fruit, creamy butter, vanilla.

Finish:Smooth, and lingering. Very nice.
Overall:I really like Proprietor's Reserve. I think it is an excellent addition to a bourbon enthusiasts collection. Not for collecting purposes, but for drinkin'!
