Bottling InfoGeorge T. Stagg is the knock your socks off barrel proof bourbon offering from Buffalo Trace. They have done one release a year since late 2002, and each release is somewhere around 2200 give or take. This years release was the 'weakest' if you can call it that, at 129 proof. The previous years have been 137.6 in 2002 and 142.7 in 2003.

An extremely hearty whiskey. Stagg comes straight out of the barrel, uncut and unfiltered. Powerful and intense; add a few drops of mineral water, sit back and ponder the wonders of the universe.

Purchased at:Salt Whiskey - London
Purchased for:12.5 pounds
Proof Of this Bottle:129
Nose:Full or vanilla and caramel. At the very first scent you get a tough of alcohol and then it is gone.
Taste:Crisp, full of vanilla and smooth caramel. Yummy
Finish:Smooth vanilla and caramel. This s close to a glass of vanilla bean ice cream with caramel topping to me... What a nice balance
Overall:This is the best of the Staggs that I have had. At 129 proof it was remarkably drinkable with just the slightest of burns. I wish I had a bottle

Review from Ishkahound (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 77)
Purchased at:Beverages and More! in Modesto,CA
Purchased for:$44.99
Info on this bottle:Latest release, @ 129 Proof. Haven't sampled it yet.
Proof Of this Bottle:142.7:!:
Nose:I can't remember exactly as it's been a year, but, I DO remember how potently pleasing it was.
Taste:Wow! As soon as it hit the tongue it diffused like a pull on a fine cigar, ...dried fruits, vanilla, cigar smoke..mmmmmmmmmmm yummy!!

This was at full strength, NO dilution!
Finish:Very VERY long! I think it was more than five minutes later that the finish seemd to finally dwindle away. Just stunningly good.
Overall:Worth the effort to snag a bottle when they are released!

Review from TNbourbon (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 45)
Purchased at:Columbia, TN
Purchased for:$41.50
Info on this bottle:Uncut/Unfiltered; Barrel Proof
Proof Of this Bottle:129
Nose:Equal parts rich caramel and cotton candy, with leather undertones, especially in higher-proof dilutions.
Taste:This bourbon can be drunk at full-proof, but it is powerful at that strength (not to mention the bottle won't last as long). Dilutions of 2:1 or 3:1 bourbon:water render the proof to 86 or 97, respectively, leaving plenty of depth and richness. Vary it to find your own optimum range.
The palate equals the nose at lower proof, with dried fruits -- apples and raisins -- also coming to the fore. Young leather impresses at higher proofs, adding an astringency that balances the sweeter notes.
Finish:Wow. Longest in the game. Even several minutes after a taste, 'legs' dribble down the glass' sides. This is a drink you more than just taste -- it coats your entire mouth like a liqueur, and clings even after a water chaser.
Overall:Whatever the vintage, this is the best whiskey I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, it's hard to come by, and even those who can get it can't get it in great enough quantity to make it an everyday pour.
But for a special occasion -- well, anytime you drink Stagg is a special occasion.
