Review from JLH3 (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 2199, Created:20130614023415)
Purchased at:Bevmo
Purchased for:50.00 approx
Info on this bottle:bottled on 9/19/12 from barrel #12, warehouse M, Rick 2.
Nose:Key lime pie. Leather. Spices. Turns into banana cream.
Taste:Tight. Doesn't spread out much. Vanilla, some citrus and oak. Lots of rye with some spices.
Finish:Something's off in the finish. There's a flat, almost sour finish. It doesn't seem to match the nose at all.
Overall:Disappointed. For the money I'd rather drink Baker's. And from WT, I'd rather drink Russell's Reserve 10 and much, much rather drink Rare Breed.

Vanilla, oaky, slightly spiced, with some caramel notes.
Taste:Full Body, Very nice oak notes, sweet, with some nice spicyness.
Finish:Very nice, slightly dry and still oaky, with some sweetness. A very nice sipper. Kick ASS finish!
Overall:A very tasty bourbon, quite different than most bourbons I've had to date. Highly recommended, worth the price.

Review from KettleOne (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 2048, Created:20120223184415, Updated:20120330133137)
Purchased at:ABC Store in Chapel Hill, NC
Purchased for:50
Info on this bottle:Warehouse F -- Barrel 72 --- Rick 44 -- Bottled 11-2008
Nose:The nose is medium but it has a leathery aroma. I smell orange peels and, as you will read, I taste it too.
Taste:This bourbon is best swigged out of the bottle or neat in a glass. Same taste either way. I taste a caramel and orange peel flavor. It doesn't have a deep flavor like, say, WT Rare Breed, Bookers, or even EC 18, but it is very tart. Again, it hits the sides of the tongue first and then gives a nice rich flavor like almonds and orange. I really like it but ABC Stores in NC are going to de-list it. Too bad, too.
Finish:Finish is exceptional for me. Not a lot of bit and not a real blank alcohol taste. Flavor sits on the tongue a while. This bourbon must be drunk neat. Perhaps refrigerate or freeze it. I left it in my garage this winter and it is ice cold. Ice would not compliment this bourbon IMHO.
Overall:I like the bottle. I've been told it is the same bottle used for the venerable WT Tribute in the Japanese market. Good look to it and the bourbon inside does not disappoint. Is it my favorite bourbon in this price range: NO. Is it a good solid drink of bourbon that honors the great bourbons fielded by WT: YES. Overall not as good as Rare Breed, that has a little more bite and flavor in my book.

I wanted to add that I bought three bottles of Warehouse F -- Barrell 165 --- Rick 10 bottled on January 17 2007, and these bottles a far better than the one I reviewed. Much stronger nose, more char taste...just more satisfying. I love this stuff.

Purchased at:Cape Cod
Purchased for:$50
Info on this bottle:2-14-05 Barrel #9 Warehouse E Rick 15
Nose:This is the second bottle I've had in storage. On opening a heavy hit of cerial, dill weed, brown sugar lingers beneath heavy alcohol. Not what I expected.
Taste:Very tight with a sour undertone of young wood and dry oak. There's an off note. A slight mocha... not anything like what I remember of the last bottle. I'm hoping this will open in time, but it looks like it may take months. I'm storing it away until next month. We'll see what happens...
Finish:Clean, ethanol.
Overall:Disappointment.

Finish:sweet corn and soft rye. What every bourbon shoud be.
Overall:Not all of the best KS has a Pewter top. This Dark top bueaty is great juice. The way Turkey is suppose to be....

Nose:Nuts, leather, rye, citrus, vanilla, oak, burnt sugar, maple syrup, pecan pie........rich, deep, dark, thick, sweet. Where is the alcohol? It was overcome and hid! Nose bone connected to the brain bone.
Taste:Ah, bourbon!! Like bittersweet love............watch me now, watch me!! The smile comes from deep, deep, down. A bite that is rich, sweet, thick, and elemental. Take me with you, brother bourbon, you can't mean me harm........can you?
Finish:Fires on the plain, glowing, glowing..........lighting the way onto a path that must be trod with trepidation. What secrets lie in our human souls..........bourbon is not afraid..........but I am!
Overall:Brother bourbon, I trust you not, but you are so seductive.........just one more sip...........fires on the plain, they are so beautiful!

Review from Dump Bucket (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 1531, Created:20090413194823)
Purchased at:50ml from Funknik
Purchased for:freebie
Info on this bottle:WTKS 2-15-02, 1 C 27
Nose:Its Wild Turkey alright, but seems a bit younger than the 2003 and older WTKS???s. The spice is right, deep components of earth and wood.
Taste:Nice. Full wild Turkey taste without the youth of the 101 currently on the market. I would put this at or near 8 yrs in age. There is a good blending of the rye with the corn where a balance is close, but not achieved quite yet.

There are touches of dark chocolate putting this on the area of the older style that was once used.
Finish:Some youth. The earth and spice a not quire in harmony like a perfect WT, but much closer than what you can get today.
Overall:I can see where this component went from in the Old # 8s, it was stolen and put into single barrels

Review from BuffaloBill (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 1453, Created:20090202075956)
Purchased at:MA
Purchased for:$45 at the time
Info on this bottle:WTKS / 2-14-05 / Barrel #9 / Warehouse C / Rick 15
Nose:Leather, light chocolate, molasses, slight hay and resinous barn board. Symmetrical legs. A trace of vanilla that flourishes over time; caramel and toffee along with a somewhat herbaceous note, incense? An hour after opening it boasts a huge cherry note that is in line to a milk chocolate cherry cordial without being overly sweet.
Taste:All of the above and perfectly balanced, very creamy and delicious. Perfection and grace.
Finish:Long, creamy, with cherry notes and resin lingering.
Overall:This is perhaps the best of WTKS I've ever had... to be savored. not overly spicy and extremely rich, perfect viscosity; not too syrupy, not too light. Everything from the color to texture, flavors, legs are perfect. A symphony in a bottle... this is the art. 5-Stars with an A+ in my book. BB

Purchased at:Barrel selected by Willie Wallace, bottled unfiltered
Purchased for:$40.00 or so
Info on this bottle:Barrel No. 51, Warehouse A rick 3
Nose:Caramel apples and honeysuckle with some fine leather and a hint of dark tobacco and cloves.
Taste:Silky smooth with no fire but some real old fashioned heat in the throat. Apples, very ripe apples, with caramel and pepper spice with some wood tannins going into the finish.
Finish:Long with fruit and oak wood. Lots of oak wood, but not the bitter, harsh tannins found in overaged bourbons. This barrel is a couple of weeks over ten years, and I think it was barreled at just the right time. Any longer would have spoiled the bourbon with harsh tannins.
Overall:A great drink of whiskey. I was part of the group that helped Willie pick this barrel and I think we did right. Jimmy Russell thought that this was his favorite barrel so me must have done something right.

Purchased at:
Info on this bottle:11/13/2000, Barrel 3, Warehouse F
Nose:Vanilla and more vanilla. Lots of eartha nd sweet tones.... sweeter nose than the other bottle I had
Taste:Earth up front with vanilla and cinimon to follow. THere is some oak, but just about right. Very nice....
Finish:Very long finish that echos that of the taste. Nothing new here other than a light leather that is mixed with the oak.
Overall:I like this one, but not the end bourbon. I look forward to the one I have at home that is a few months earlier.....

Taste:Smooth as silk with a lusty and leathery bravado. Caramel and Brown Sugar to the hilt. Round? Syrupy round... Honey tones.
Finish:Viscosity extraordinaire... neat or with ice - this bottle rocks!
Overall:TEN!

Purchased at:
Nose:A thick nose with vanilla, rye, corn, leather, and alcohol. No surprises in a premium WT product..........but its aromas come from deep in KS's belly and are complex. If a nose ever had a long finish, this one does!
Taste:As thick as the nose says. Great balance twixt the sweet vanilla and oak toward the front and the subtle spice which makes its announcement at mid-palate. The mouthfeel is like molasses in it viscosity. The complexity derives from the balance of its sweet, spice, viscosity, and subtlety.
Finish:Moderate, not at all harsh, but lively and interesting all the same.
Overall:Marvelous bourbon.

Purchased at:Bourbons Society Selection, bottled unfiltered
Info on this bottle:Bottled 4/29/08, barrel 500, Warehouse C, Rick 47
Nose:Tobacco and fine leather with some cinnamon spice and caramel. Somewhere in the background is some oak wood - present but not trying to compete with the other aromas.
Taste:Ripe apples and caramel with a little spice and fine tobacco, but the oak jumps out and makes it presence known here. Very smooth without any fire, but a pleasant warmth in the throat. This bourbon is almost chewy with a great mouthfeel.
Finish:Long and dry with oak tannins and sweet vanilla, well balanced and leaves you wanting more.
Overall:This is a great sample of the single barrel concept. It is a shame that they don't make the unfiltered version available to the consumers nationwide. This would be worth a few bucks more per bottle.

Nose:caramel, clover honey, fruit, and leather
Taste:A deep, complex sweetness engulfed in the smell/taste of fresh leather. Its like walking into a leather shop.
Finish:moderate length with some minty notes right at the very end. very nice finish with nothing negative to note.
Overall:Tasted after a glass of Rare Breed. Much more leathery but very, very nice overall. Both are excellent bourrbons, but the RB has more burn and a completely different profile. Think I like the KS a little better.

Nose:Vanilla, with fruit (apricots), light leather, with and ending or a little orange peel. On the second and third smell I get a little caramel and brown sugar and a little oak the longer it sits the stronger the leather gets and tobacco begins to creep in

Finish:
Overall:Good. Will keep one on the shelf, but think I like the Rare Breed better - and the 1855 blows it out of the water.

Nose:Vanilla, apricots, leather, orange peel, rye, pralines, caramel, mint, and cream all make an aromatic appearance. This is a characteristic WT rich creamy nose that I find so alluring. It is highly seductive to me and makes my sensory module sing.
Taste:Creamy and viscous as expected but the upfront sweetness gives way a bit too quickly to the rye spice in this bottling. Ideally, in my opinion, the sweetness should have more lasting power than it does here. It yields too much to the spice for my palate.
Finish:A long spicy finish that says Wild Turkey all the way. Ah, the bourbon 'bite'....... we must have it from time to time to reaffirm that this is 'American' whiskey. Nobody does it gooder than WT.
Overall:The nose had me all the way..........but alas, the taste wasn't quite its equal. But, y'all, we are talking about an excellent Wild Turkey bourbon here.........I am comparing it to the top shelf stuff, not to lesser bourbons. Still, at almost $50 a bottle, I was slightly disappointed. I just don't really know where to put this far better than average bourbon. It will not go to waste, and if you buy some, you will like it, cause it is goood!

Purchased at:PALCB Store
Purchased for:42.39
Info on this bottle:Bottled 2-9-04, Barrel No. 10, Rick 54. Warehouse "A"
Nose:This was tasted alongside a WT-12 (Full Label). Nothing jumps out in the nose. Good level of rye spice. The nose is virtually the same as the WT-12 year old.
Taste:Alcholic very early. Settles down with medium complexity. Seems very balanced.
Finish:A good, medium length finish. Hints of apricots.
Overall:IMO this is almost identical to the 12 year old. This is good bourbon but I don't think the premium price over Russell's Reserve (101) is justified.

Purchased at:Part of a basket from Oscar Getz Museum Auction
Info on this bottle:Bottled 6/3/05 from barrel 1 in warehouse E from rick 28
Proof Of this Bottle:101
Nose:Caramel and honey with some cinnamon spice. Old leather and and dark fruit cherries or dates. Very complex and very nice. Well worth spending 20 or 30 minutes just on the nose.
Taste:Candy caramel corn with ripe apples and dates with a splash of spice - cinnamon and nutmeg. Somewhere on the edges is some fine aged tobacco and some grain flavors. Not woody at all in the taste, saving the wood for the finish.
Finish:Well balanced with sweet caramel and spice in the begining leading into a nice dry oak wood with a hint of smoke. Very nice finish leaving you wanting more.
Overall:This is a great bottle of Kentucky Spirit. I have had a problem with the consistancy of the brand. I have never had a bad bottle, but I have had some not as good as others. This is the danger of drinking single barrel products as barrels are varied in flavor from one batch to the next.

Purchased at:WilloShore Beverage
Purchased for:$42
Info on this bottle:Bottled 4/24/01 from barrel #2 warehouse E rick #9
Proof Of this Bottle:101
Nose:Smooth, full carmel and vanilla, sweet
Taste:Very full and very smooth, Polished and sophisticated but very much a Bourbon. The carmel and vanilla come through loud and clear with the addition of some maple. There are hints of oak and leather but they are subtle.
Finish:Long full, everything I'd expected from the nose and the taste. This is what finish is all about.
Overall:KS doesn't set out to make you prove how tough you are, it just lets you enjoy life and one of it's greatest pleasures

Review from Mike (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 127)
Purchased at:Sigman Bottle Shop, Conyers, GA
Purchased for:$20 (reduced because I have spent $1,000,000 there)
Info on this bottle:Bottled on 08-04-03, from barrel #6, warehouse C, on rick #59
Proof Of this Bottle:101
Nose:Molasses, vanilla, freshly cut oak, brown sugar, spring flowers, rye
Taste:Smooth, with a slight rye edge. The rye edge says 'attention spirit drinker, you are imbibing a WT bourbon.......take notice'! A thick, warming, mouth coating, quality taste that whispers 'have another sip, bourbon brother'. You can't resist, no use trying!!
Finish:A very satisfying finish that reminds you, and justifies, why you paid a bit extra for the privilege of being friends with KS. This bourbon makes itself known through its pleasant persistence, not by a direct frontal assault.
Overall:I like Kentucky Spirit bourbon quite a lot. I recommend it without reservation. It is like an older, more mature, brother to Rare Breed. There will be occasions in which one is more to your taste than t'other. KS is a bit more refined and less rambuctious, and............. not always the best choice of the two.

Review from Mark (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 54)
Purchased at:
Info on this bottle:bottled on 3/2/00 from barrel #9, warehouse F, Rick 46.
Nose:leather, almonds
Taste:oak and char seem to be the predominant thing to me. There is a little sweetness trying to come out but it is squashed under everything else going on...
Finish:Bold and quite robust with a good dose of rye 'bite'. It has a very long and 'warming' effect with littel bite for its 101 proof.
Overall:Compared to other, cheaper, offerings from Wild Turkey I like KY Spirit the least. Not many agree, but I would prefer Rare Breed and even more Russell's Reserve to it. Still, it is a good product to compare with the 'rest of the range'.

Info on this bottle:bottled on 3/2/00 from barrel #9, warehouse F, Rick 46.
Proof Of this Bottle:101
Nose:I always add a little bit of water prior to nosing and tasting, and since the KS is 101 proof, I think that a bit of water gives a better sense of the aroma and taste characteristics. Even with the water added, the nose remains very intense. The aromas that I observe include: oak, citrus, honey and cinnamon/vanilla spices. I also notice that different aromas appear prominent during different tastings, which I believe is part of the complexity of the KS.
Taste:The flavor is very full and strong, and I note honey, oak, leather and vanilla/nutmeg/cinnamon flavors.
Finish:I love the finish which is very long and warming. The aftertaste is totally smooth and lingering. Despite it's strength, there is absolutely no harshness noted at all.
Overall:I'd say that there's LOTS of Spirit in this single cask bottling. This is one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it!
